Samsun City Museum (İlkadım)

Samsun became a member of Historical Cities Union in 2004. Under the Department of Culture and Social Affairs, Works started about collecting the city memories with Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Yusuf Ziya Yilmaz's instructions. After the meeting held with CEKUL Foundation (Protection and Promotion of Environment and Culture Foundation) Chairman Prof. Dr. Metin Sözen and other board members, works gain momentum on protection of cultural and historical values of Samsun, the Project began to form about keeping alive city memory in a museum. After “City Museums for Every City) meeting of Historical Cities Union in Samsun at 13 -15 Mayıs 2011, Project is implemented. Detection of Museum location, content and Project was carried out with support of CEKUL and Prof. Dr. Metin Süzen. Turkish Railways Houses and Demirspor expropriated in 2011. The restoration work completed within eight months, after city museum building design and content created. Museum complemented with objects in terms of city memory with support of many institutions in Samsun. By this way, historical building for Turkish Railways and Demirspor, also memorable building for Samsun people because of celebration ceremonies in its garden, now a museum for city where people can meet with their past.
