Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) is Ranked among the best in the “Times Higher Education 2023 Impact Rankings”

One of the world's most respected university ranking organizations, Times Higher Education (THE), has announced the results of the 2023 Impact Rankings. Ondokuz Mayıs University has once again achieved a great success by ranking in the 801-1000 range.

Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has improved its performance in 13 categories compared to previous years and has achieved a ranking in every category it participated in, according to the ranking based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

With its contributions to society in the fields of health, food, ecology, and education, Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMU) has achieved a significant success by ranking in the 801-1000 range among universities worldwide.

The Times Higher Education 2023 World University Rankings include 1,591 universities from 112 countries and regions. Ondokuz Mayıs University, according to the World Impact Rankings, received scores above the global average in the following categories: "No Poverty" (101-200 range), "Good Health and Well-being" (401-600 range), "Climate Action" (301-400 range), and "Partnerships for the Goals" (601-800 range). In the category of "Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions," it ranked in the 401-600 range.

THE uses carefully selected indicators to make comprehensive and balanced comparisons in four main areas: research, management, social assistance, and teaching. OMU is among the followers of the list called Universities Impact Rankings 2023, which was published for the fifth time this year and allows 1,591 universities from 112 countries/regions to be ranked.

Ondokuz Mayıs University ranked in the 801-1000 range among the 1,591 universities in the overall ranking, with a general score of 58.1 out of 100.

 

Categories of Sustainable Development Goals

1 - Ending Poverty

It examines the efforts and research of universities on poverty and the support they provide to impoverished students and citizens in the region. In this category, where a total of 876 universities from 89 countries and regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 40.0.

2 - Ending Hunger

It examines universities' research on hunger, their teachings on food sustainability, and their determination to combat regional hunger and food waste. In this category, where a total of 647 universities from 79 countries and regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 101-200 with a score of 56.7.

3 - Health and Quality of Life

It examines universities' research on major diseases and the support they provide to the healthcare sector, students, and staff regarding their health. In this category, where a total of 1218 universities from 98 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 63.4.

4 - Quality Education

It examines universities' contributions to early childhood education and lifelong learning, their pedagogical research, and their commitment to inclusive education. In this category, where a total of 1304 universities from 106 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 601-800 with a score of 45.9.

5 - Gender Equality

It examines universities' research on gender equality, their policies, and their determination to empower women in the workforce. In this category, where a total of 1081 universities from 101 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 801-1000 with a score of 26.7.

6 - Clean Water and Sanitation

It examines universities' research on water and water usage, as well as their commitment to ensuring sustainable water management for everyone. In this category, where a total of 702 universities from 82 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 40.5.

7 - Affordable and Clean Energy

It examines universities' research on energy, their energy consumption, energy policies, and their commitment to ensuring and promoting energy efficiency for everyone. In this category, where a total of 812 universities from 85 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 50.6.

8 - Decent Work and Economic Growth

It examines universities' economic research, employment practices, and the proportion of employed students. In this category, where a total of 960 universities from 95 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked in the 801+ category with a score of 33.6.

9 - Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

It examines universities' research on industry and innovation, the number of patents and spin-off/independent companies, and the research income they generate from the industry. In this category, where a total of 873 universities from 86 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 41.0.

10 - Reduced Inequalities

It examines universities' research on social inequalities, their policies regarding discrimination, and their commitment to employing and empowering personnel and students from underrepresented groups. In this category, where a total of 901 universities from 93 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 601-800 with a score of 35.7.

11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

It examines universities' research on sustainability, their roles as custodians of art and cultural heritage, and their internal approaches to sustainability. In this category, where a total of 860 universities from 89 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 40.8.

12 - Responsible Production and Consumption

It examines universities' efforts in responsible consumption and their approaches to sustainable use of natural resources. In this category, where a total of 674 universities from 83 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 32.7.

13 - Climate Action

It examines universities' research on climate change, their energy usage, and their preparedness activities to combat the consequences of climate change. In this category, where a total of 733 universities from 89 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 301-400 with a score of 44.9.

16 - Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions

It examines universities' research on peace and justice, their policies on academic freedom, and their participation as consultants in governance institutions related to these issues. In this category, where a total of 910 universities from 97 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 401-600 with a score of 45.8.

17 - Partnerships for the Goals

It examines universities' support for global partnerships, promoting best practices, and publishing data related to sustainable development goals in a more comprehensive manner. In this category, where a total of 1625 universities from 108 countries/regions were evaluated, OMU ranked between 601-800 with a score of 54.2.
