Bafra Museum (Bafra)

The building that was built in 1858 in Büyükcami Quarter of Bafra and that was used as City Club and Teacher’s House has been transformed to a museum. It hosts the historical pieces especially founded in İkiztepe Excavation. At İkiztepe, that’s known past dates back to 5000-4000 B.C. and was excavated since 1971, 57 mound type, 6 flat settling places; 25 remaining from ancient time, 48 tumulus, 5 rock tombs, 3 cemeteries, 1 castle, 1 bath and 1 bridge have been found. The museum was constructed in the 19th century and used afterwards for various purposes. It belongs to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism today and has 2152 m2 area. Its restoration works have been made by the ministry. There are 1520 archeological and ethnographic pieces in the museum. Different cultural values that have been obtained by the excavations made in Samsun and the region are exhibited in this museum.
