Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın participated in the “Kosovo–Türkiye Health Cooperation Panel” , held in the city of Prizren, Kosovo.
The panel, which attracted significant interest from healthcare professionals from Kosovo, provided a platform to assess the current state of cooperation in the field of health between Türkiye and Kosovo, as well as to explore future opportunities for collaboration.
During the presentations delivered at the panel, it was highlighted that nearly 100 Kosovar physicians have received education and training at Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) to date. It was emphasized that this ongoing educational cooperation in the field of healthcare is expected to continue and expand in the coming years.
Minister Damka: “Samsun Offers New Opportunities for the People of Kosovo”
In his address at the panel, Fikrim Damka, Minister of Development of the Republic of Kosovo, stated that Kosovar physicians who have completed their undergraduate and specialty training in Türkiye have made significant contributions to their home country. Expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the Association of Tradespeople, Damka noted that patients traveling from Kosovo to Türkiye for medical treatment would receive healthcare services in Samsun through Ondokuz Mayıs University.
Minister Damka included the following remarks in his speech:
“Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s arrival in Samsun to ignite the torch of independence marked a historic turning point that shaped the destiny of our nation. Today, that same city of Samsun has opened a highly valuable gateway for us to provide higher-quality healthcare services to the people of Kosovo. ”
Ambassador Angılı: “Cooperation Is Developing in a Multidimensional Manner”
Türkiye’s Ambassador to Pristina, Sabri Tunç Angılı, also addressed the panel, stating that cooperation between Türkiye and Kosovo in the field of healthcare is developing in a multidimensional manner. Emphasizing that interuniversity partnerships enable patients whose treatment is not available in Kosovo to receive medical care in Türkiye, Ambassador Angılı underlined that this cooperation will continue to strengthen.
OMÜ Rector Aydın: “It Contributes to Our Internationalization Objectives”
In her speech, OMÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın noted that Ondokuz Mayıs University has a 50-year academic tradition, approximately 2,000 academic staff, and a student population exceeding 50,000, including 5,000 international students. She emphasized that the panel represents a significant step toward OMÜ’s goals of internationalization and becoming a research-oriented university.
Experience Sharing by OMÜ Graduate Physicians
Following the panel, a promotional presentation of Ondokuz Mayıs University was delivered. Subsequently, Kosovar physicians who had received their education at OMÜ shared their personal impressions and professional experiences with the participants.
