Gazi Museum (İlkadım)
Samsun Gazi Museum built by Ionnis Mantika as a hotel with 4 shops in 1902 on 509 square meter area.
Mustafa Kemal Pasha as a 9.Army Inspector first stayed here when he arrived Samsun Monday morning 8:00 am of 19 May 1919. Hotels name was changed to Mıntıka Palace Hotel in time.
Building is not on use on inside empty before Ataturk arrival to Samsun. Governor Ethem Bey and Acoounting Manager Osman Bey brought materials and stuff such as military hospital cot, bed, duvets, tables, chairs from neighbors and prepared this building for Ataturk. When Ataturk come to Samsun second time (20-24 September 1924) with his wife Latife Hanım, they stayed at Şahinzade Remzi Bey’s house.
At 12 June 1926, a delegation move to the İstanbul with ferry, take the keys of Mıntıka Palace Hotel to Ataturk as a memory of 19 May 1919. The third (16-18 September 1928) and fourth (22 – 26 Nov. 1930) visit to Samsun, Ataturk stayed in this hotel that Samsun people gifted it to him.
The building owned by Ataturk, taken by Samsun Municipality at 1939 to become here a museum, after at 1997 Culture and Tourism Ministry take over this museum. At 1 July 1968 it was opened to visit with fair in Samsun, 105 pieces of stuff displayed here which brought from Ankara Ataturk Mausoleum.
